The 29th Annual Multidisciplinary Symposium on Breast Disease
Dear Colleagues:
This is indeed a pleasure to present to you the program of the 29th Annual Multidisciplinary Symposium on Breast Disease, which will take place February 9-11, 2024 at The Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Amelia Island, Florida.
For the past 28 years, the symposium has provided a unique educational experience for those involved in breast health care. As an internationally recognized symposium, we have been fortunate to attract the most highly respected speakers to participate in the symposium every year.
The program is designed to offer plenary sessions, case presentations and panel discussions with active participation of the audience. The speakers are recognized authorities in their specialties, with experience in presenting the most controversial aspects surrounding the spectrum of benign, premalignant and malignant breast lesions.
In addition, we are fortunate to have Lisa Newman, MD to serve as our keynote speaker. Dr. Newman is surgical breast oncologist with a clinical and research practice dedicated to breast cancer management at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York, NY. In 2018 she was appointed Chief of the Section of Breast Surgery at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and Weill Cornell Medicine. In addition, at the New York-Presbyterian David H. Koch Center, Dr. Newman leads the multidisciplinary breast oncology programs which provides the finest, most compassionate care to women and men affected by breast cancer. Dr. Newman’s primary research has focused on ethnicity-related variation in breast cancer risk and outcome, the evaluation and management of high-risk patients; broadened applications for neoadjuvant chemotherapy, and special surgical techniques such as the skin-sparing mastectomy and lymphatic mapping/sentinel lymph node biopsy. Her extensive research related to disparities in breast cancer risk and outcome has been published in numerous peer-reviewed medical journals and was featured in CNN’s documentary “Black in America 2”. She has also been the featured breast cancer medical expert for NBC’s “Today Show” twice (2014 and 2017) as well on CBS Nightly News (2015). She maintains a very active community service record, and currently serves as Chief National Medical Advisor for the Sisters Network, Inc., a national African American breast cancer survivors support organization.
As always, this year’s symposium will take place at one of the most beautiful resort locations in Florida. Please join us to celebrate the 29th Anniversary of our Symposium.
